Meg's Sunday Special
Here’s my list of updates:
Teaching update:
Teaching is hard. I spent over 6 hours creating curriculum over the weekend. I also don’t know how to build rapport with my kids in Spanish yet. My kids are continuing to be tiny and cute! Spirits are generally high but I’m learning, a lot.
Bug update:
Awesome bugs. Notable mention is an iridescent green beetle. There’s also this bug that looks exactly like a dead leaf. So far I’ve encountered no scary bugs. I know that streak can only last so long, so I’m enjoying it while it lasts.
Hair update:
Huge news - I can finally get my bangs into a braid! Bangs aren’t exactly the most practical hairstyle here. As in, they’re constantly wet and stuck to my forehead. Not my fav. So I’m trying to grow them out.
Caffeine update:
Every morning I drink 1/2 cup of drip coffee with milk. No noticeable side effects. So far going well. I’ve also implemented a 1 affogato a week minimum policy, for science.
Plant update:
I’m living in Jurassic World.
Motmot Update:
Still skeptical.
Tortilla update:
My host family is teaching me how to make tortillas and is convinced that flipping the tortilla doesn’t hurt your fingers in you’re fast enough. Not convinced. I feel like it’s less about speed and more about burning through the pain receptors on your fingers over the years.
I feel like teaching is forcing me to be creative in a way I haven’t in years. I guess that’s what happens when I have to create 100% of my curriculum by myself. But my brain is SO TIRED of creating. Not tired of it, but literally exhausted. I wasn’t using my creative brain the same way with outdoor ed. I’m just making so many things. And I don’t have a lot of creative energy to write because of it. I’m hoping that the more I use my creativity, the more capacity it will gain. That’s why I’m posting this on a Wednesday instead of a Sunday, but I’m still going to call it my Sunday special because I have no gas left in the tank to create a new title. Enjoy this picture of a dramatic Monteverde sky! <3
